LITTLE CEDAR LAKECONDENSED ORDINANCES FOR WATER TRAFFIC

All state boating regulations apply and are enforced.  Refer to the boating regulations provided with your boat title/registration.  All State and Local Laws pertain as well to Personal Watercraft.

LITTLE CEDAR LAKE has ordinances more restrictive than State Law does.  Some important State and Local Regulations are:

DIRECTION OF TRAVEL:  All motorized watercraft traveling faster than SLOW-NO- WAKE must travel in a counter-clockwise direction.

      At all times, speed in the “SHORE AREA”, which is any location less than 150 feet from shore, or less than 100 feet from any dock, pier or buoyed restricted area is limited to SLOW-NO-WAKE.

      In “TRAFFIC LANES”, which is beyond the above restricted area, the SPEED LIMITS are as follows:

  • MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY - 35 MPH 10:00 A.M. to   7:00 P.M.
  • SLOW-NO-WAKE - 7:00 P.M.  to 10:00 A.M.
  • WEEKENDS and HOLIDAYS - 35 MPH 10:00 A.M. to  6:00 P.M.

Water skiing or similar activity - 10:00 A.M. to 7:00 P.M. Monday through Friday. No more than TWO lines per boat.

Weekends and Holidays - 10:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. No more than ONE line per boat

PERSONAL WATERCRAFT LAWS ARE STRICTLY ENFORCED

  • No person may operate a PWC from sunset to sunrise
  • All persons riding a PWC must wear a personal flotation device of the proper size and type (I,II,III or V).
  • All PWC operators must use and attach the Lanyard if so equipped.
  • PWC MAY NOT operate within 100 feet of any other boat, raft, pier or dock and 200 feet from shore at a speed in excess of SLOW-NO-WAKE.
  • PWC operation, persons at least 12 but under 16 must be in possession of a valid, state approved boating certificate.

DISTANCES:  Motorized watercraft must not travel within 100 feet of or in a manner that will interfere with a moored boat, swimmer, another watercraft towing a skier or the tow rope itself, or a skin diver’s marker.

WEED BED AREA:  Motorized watercraft must not travel in marked WEED BED AREAS faster than SLOW-NO-WAKE.

SWIMMING IN TRAFFIC LANES:  No person shall swim in the traffic lane unless accompanied by and within fifty feet of a manned boat.

EQUIPMENT:  State Laws are strictly enforced regarding proper lighting after sundown, battery storage, personal flotation and safety equipment, fire extinguishers, maximum safe capacity and sea-worthiness.
